How Passwords are stolen – Cheatsheet

While having one of your accounts breached is a scary occurrence, you might wonder how it could actually happen. Chances are that a hacker wouldn’t target your account since you’re not famous or rich, right?

Well, hacking isn’t the only way to steal passwords. There are several other methods someone could use to discover and steal the password to an online account, your phone, or other important credentials. Let’s look at some of the most common.

How passwords are stolen

We would’ve been talking about an extraordinarily low number of breached records this month if it hadn’t been for a string of incidents in India, another Facebook gaffe and a massive blunder in China, in which a series of companies exposed almost 600 million citizens’ CVs.

Still, April 2019 saw a not completely disastrous 1,334,488,724 breached records. That’s better than last month, bringing the annual total to 5.64 billion and reducing the monthly average to 1.46 billion.
